Good morning, everyone.
Have been removing things slowly from my home and have had a hard time going non toxic with cleaners/disinfectants the most.
Whether it's already made/bought gels for my dishwasher like ECOS brand, or making my own by mixing Washing Soda, Baking Soda, Citric Acid, and Kosher Salt, my dishes and glasses are definately NOT getting clean. The gels are ineffective, and the powders leave too much granules/haze on my items. It's a pretty good brand of dishwasher that was installed about two years ago and recently had a brand new pump installed. That rules out my dishwasher. I do have a whole house filtration unit to take care of contaminants as well, so that would rule out the water. I really could use some help to find/make something that works. This is making me rethink the non-tox items, at least for my kitchen. Thanks for any ideas!
Hi!
Thank you for your comment. This is also an issue I experienced when searching for a nontoxic dishwashing detergent. I also have felt frustrated on my nontoxic journey, and felt I wasted resources and money on greenwashed, non-deliverable products. This was my main motivation for starting Know it Nontoxic!
Back to dishwashing detergent, I initially tried branch basics and found detergent residue was left on my dishes. I would have to rinse my dishes again to get the detergent residue off.
I have since switched to Blueland dishwashing tablets and I really like them. They are smaller in size and I find dont leave a residue. For my nice drinking glasses, I prefer to hand wash them. Regardless of detergent type being used, I find the dishwasher can cause glass etching, so hand washing eliminates that risk. For hand washing dishes I use Dr Bronners. There are instructions on the bottle for reconstituting the soap with water and using it for dishwashing. I also use it for laundry detergent 😁 It’s really a multipurpose soap!
My favorite nontoxic kitchen swap has been natural bristle brushes for hand washing dishes. No more buying and throwing away sponges!
I hope this information was helpful. All the best on your non toxic journey!
